About Me

My name is Lisa Goodmurphy and I have been traveling with kids since my older daughter, Katie, was 4 months old. I'm not sure where the time has gone but she's 16 now. After much encouragement from friends and family I started Gone with the Family to document the trips that our family has taken and to share our experiences with others planning similar vacations. Hopefully reading about some of the travel experiences that we have had with our children will inspire you to make some plans and head out to explore the world with your kids. If we can do it then you can too!!

I grew up in a rural part of Northern Ontario and did not travel at all as a child. I was a voracious reader though and my books transported me to faraway times and places and ignited a desire to visit all the places that I dreamed about. I got my first taste of real travel after finishing university and the bug took hold.

I practiced law in Toronto, Canada for about 4 years after graduation until my oldest daughter was born and I left the workforce to stay home with her. We now have two daughters, Katie (16 years old) and Emma (9 years old) and are living in the beautiful community of Oakville about a 30 minute drive from downtown Toronto.

Travel, particularly family travel, is my passion. I believe that travel is one of the most educational experiences a child can have and I delight in traveling with my children and seeing the world through their eyes. I love to read about and plan for future vacations, whether it be holidays that we have already booked or locales that I am just dreaming about visiting one day. There's a whole world out there just waiting to be explored and I believe that parents can travel with their children just about anywhere provided that they realize that planning needs to be done with the children in mind and that the pace of the trip will have to accommodate the smallest members of the family.
