The book that I have chosen for May is The Hundred-Foot Journey by Richard C. Morais. It was my turn to select a book for April for my book club and this is the one that I chose for us to read as a group. When I saw this book on the shelf, I was initially drawn to it by the beautiful cover. As soon as I read the summary on the jacket, I was hooked by the connections to one of my favourite cities, Paris, and to India, a country that I have been obsessed with visiting for a very long time now.
For my 8 year old daughter, Emma, one of the most anticipated activities on our recent trip to Paris was the visit to Musée du Louvre. In the weeks leading up to our trip, many people asked Emma what she was going to do in Paris and her first answer was invariably the same - see the Mona Lisa.
We make the 4.5 hour drive north from the Toronto area to Sudbury a few times a year as my husband's parents and my youngest sister and her family both live there. One of our favourite places to visit when we are in town has always been Science North which is Canada's second largest science centre and one of the most popular tourist attractions in Northern Ontario.
It's time for Disney (Almost) Wordless Wednesday and the theme this week is a calendar shot for the month of May. When I think of May the rhyme "April showers bring May flowers" is what immediately comes to mind so I have picked the most flowery Disney photo that I could find.
After our family cruise from Vancouver to Alaska we embarked on a 5 day land tour that finished in Fairbanks where we went on a full-day excursion that included a cruise on the Riverboat Discovery (a stern-wheel river boat) as well as a visit to El Dorado Gold Mine.
In 1995, my husband and I spent a week of our honeymoon in Eze-le-Village which is a medieval village located along the French Riviera about 15 or 20 kilometres from Nice. The village is perched on a cliff top about 427 metres above sea level which affords magnificent views over the Mediterranean. The village is accessible only to pedestrians and there are numerous charming boutiques just waiting to be discovered while strolling the narrow, sloping pathways. Eze was a perfect home base for the week that we spent exploring the French Riviera and, even though it was late March/early April, the sun shone brilliantly every day and there was a hint of the summer to come in the air.
In celebration of the upcoming Earth Day the Disney (Almost) Wordless Wednesday theme this week is nature. The first place that comes to mind when I think of Disney and nature is Animal Kingdom, the Orlando theme park which is centred around Disney's dedication to nature and conservation. Animal Kingdom, which takes up about 500 acres of land, is the largest animal themed park in the world with more than 1700 animals representing 250 species.
I am taking part in HostelBookers7 Super Shots after being tagged this past week by Mary from The World is a Book. I agreed to participate even though I have been secretly dreading getting tagged and having to write a post featuring 7 amazing photographs. I was dreading it because I don't think that I am a particularly good photographer. I use a simple point and shoot camera, I don't have a particularly good eye and I take far too many photos of my kids to ever be featured in National Geographic. I do love my photos though because they mean a lot to me even if they don't seem that special to anyone else.
The Jardin du Luxembourg (Luxembourg Gardens), at approximately 22 hectares, is the second largest public park in Paris and a delightful place to take your kids for some outdoor playtime while vacationing in the city. The gardens have a prime location on the Left Bank in the 6th arrondissement near Sorbonne University and are popular with visitors as well as Parisians. The gardens can be quite a lively spot, particularly when the weather is nice, because there are so many things to do there.
It's time for another Disney (Almost) Wordless Wednesday post and the theme for this week is Adventure. Easy peasy because, when you're a kid, everyday at Disney World brings a new adventure. You never know what might be waiting around the corner - you might even happen upon a stray lion cub that needs a little cuddle.
