Favourite shoes from the Bata Shoe Museum – from Instagram.
The Bata Shoe Museum is a unique museum in downtown Toronto which has hundreds of shoes on display from a collection of over 10,000. The museum has one permanent exhibit and three rooms with changing exhibits so visitors can return knowing that there will be something new to see.
My 10 year-old daughter and I had a great time browsing the exhibits this week and snapping photos of our favourite shoes to show off on Instagram.
Before even entering the exhibit halls, Emma had to try on a few shoes…
We loved the stylish collection of celebrity shoes in the “Star Turns” mini-theatre.
These lovely pairs were worn by Hollywood starlets Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor.
A pair of Elton John’s boots – I have no idea how he was able to perform in these!
And Justin Bieber’s sneakers (this was Emma’s favourite)!
The handiwork on the Native North American footwear was exquisite.
We learned about Shoemaking Traditions from Around the World.
I have always wanted a pair of these wooden clogs called Klompen from the Netherlands.
These Kamik were worn by Arctic Aboriginal peoples such as the Inuit.
The Jutti is a delicate type of footwear worn in India.
And finally we stopped by the Sneaker Culture exhibit and discovered that sneakers can be stylish too!
Now we’re looking forward to a return visit to see the museum’s ever changing collection of fancy footwear.
Emma and I were provided with complimentary admission to the museum.

Leigh, your family would love Toronto – there is so much for kids to do! Having said that, I never imagined that kids would have fun at a shoe museum but my daughter loved it!!

I was so surprised when I visited the Bata Shoe Museum to find that it was so large. I envisioned a kind of small, quirky place. Loved the exhibits. When I was there,there was special exhibit with shoes from the 50s and 60s by former Dior designer Roger Vivier. Very cool place.

I grew up with Bata Shoe Stores and was expecting some pretty staid and sturdy shoes. These have pizzazz!
