My name is Lisa Goodmurphy and I have been traveling with kids since my older daughter, Katie, was 4 months old. I'm not sure where the time has gone but she's 21 now and I also have a younger daughter, Emma, who is 14 years old. Since Katie was born, I have been on a mission to show my kids the world - one trip at a time!

I started Gone with the Family in March of 2011 to document the trips that our family has taken and to share our experiences with others planning similar vacations. Hopefully reading about some of the travel experiences that we have had with our children will inspire you to make some plans and head out to explore the world with your kids. If we can do it then you can too!!
I grew up in a rural part of Northern Ontario and did not travel at all as a child. I was a voracious reader though and my books transported me to faraway times and places and ignited a desire to visit all the places that I dreamed about. I got my first taste of real travel after finishing university and the bug took hold. I practiced law in Toronto, Canada for about 4 years after graduation until my oldest daughter was born and I left the workforce to stay home with her. We now live in the beautiful community of Oakville about a 30 minute drive from downtown Toronto.
Travel, particularly family travel, is my passion. I believe that travel is one of the most educational experiences a child can have and I delight in traveling with my children and seeing the world through their eyes. I love to read about and plan for future vacations, whether it be holidays that we have already booked or locales that I am just dreaming about visiting one day.
There's a whole world out there just waiting to be explored and I believe that parents can travel with their children just about anywhere provided that they realize that planning needs to be done with the children in mind and that the pace of the trip will have to accommodate the smallest members of the family.
We travel as much as possible with our kids - hitting the road whenever they have school holidays. We have traveled with the kids in Canada, the United States, the Caribbean and in Europe, have been on several cruises with them and have plenty of Disney experience as well. We have had so many memorable experiences traveling as a family that I find it difficult to believe that people still believe kids should be left at home until they are old enough to remember all the details of their travels. Some of our experiences include:
- playing with sled dogs in Alaska;
- falling in love with red-headed orphans in PEI;
- standing on the Prime Meridian;
- practicing our French at markets in Provence;
- learning about messengers of peace at the Nobel Center in Oslo;
- climbing the Escaliers Casse-Cou (Breakneck Stairs) and sleeping at a castle in Québec City;
- touring the Sonoran Desert in a jeep driven by a cowboy named Scout;
- playing with Swedish kids at Villa Villekulla in Stockholm;
- staring in awe at the Sistine Chapel;
- getting hopelessly lost in Mykonos;
- marvelling at the grandeur of Catherine's Palace in Russia; and
- walking on the ocean floor of the Bay of Fundy at low tide.
In addition to my website, I was a contributing writer at Travel Mamas, as The Spunky Travel Mama from 2012-2015 and was the Destination Guroo - Eastern Canada for family travel review website Trekaroo from September 2013 following the website's expansion into Canada until November 2014.
