Last year I wrote about the Christmas ornaments that we have collected as travel souvenirs and shared photos of a few favourites. Now that the tree is up and decorated again, I feel compelled to share a few more of the ornaments that I love.
We traveled to Orlando over the New Year's holiday last year and, apart from a brief visit to the The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, spent the better part of a week at Disney World. Each of the parks was decked out for the holidays and the festive atmosphere made for an even more magical experience.
A number of years ago, my husband and I thought that it might be fun for our family to go away for a few days after Christmas. That decision was the start of a family holiday tradition that we have continued for the seven years since.
Christmas has always been my favourite holiday season - I love the music, the decorations, the holiday traditions, the giddy kids, and the feeling of happiness that fills the air. Our family seems to attend the same events and take part in the same Christmas activities year after year though and I wonder sometimes if we should branch out a bit and try something new. But, upon reflection, I think that I love these activities precisely because they have become family traditions and an integral part of our holiday celebrations so we'll continue with the same old things but leave open the possibility of trying something new.
It had long been a dream of mine to visit Disney during the Christmas holiday season and I finally had the opportunity two years ago when we spent New Year's Day at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. This was followed by a six day visit to Disney World in Orlando between Christmas and New Year's last year where I was able to completely soak up the Disney holiday spirit.
There were only three of us for Canada Day this year since Katie flew to Scotland for her summer abroad program the night before. It was the first time that our family wasn't going to be together for a holiday and Emma was feeling a bit sad about it so I knew ahead of time that I had to find something fun for the three of us to do on the day. When we received an email from the Stratford Shakespeare Festival announcing their 1st Annual Canada Day Family Weekend, I jumped at the chance to book tickets.
During this past week leading up to Mother's Day, Mara at Mother of all Trips dedicated each day to offering tips, inspiration and stories to all the traveling moms out there, especially those who may be wondering how exactly to go about introducing travel to young children. In each post, Mara has shared the collective wisdom of a group of family travel bloggers and put together a series of informative articles for moms seeking advice on traveling with babies and toddlers.
Wishing everyone that celebrates the holiday a happy Easter and everyone that's hitting the road safe travels this weekend!! We are driving north to spend a few days in Sudbury and will be celebrating Easter as well as my niece's 6th birthday and my Dad's 85th so it promises to be a fun-filled, very busy long weekend.
Best Wishes for the Holiday Season from Our Family to Yours.
I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been reading my blog over the last 9 months. I am thoroughly enjoying chronicling our family's travels and getting to know so many of you who are as passionate about traveling with your kids as I am. Looking forward to much more in 2012.
We will be on the road much of the next couple of weeks so the best way to follow along is by liking our FACEBOOK PAGE or by following me on TWITTER.
