I am very excited to finally get my family travel blog up and running. With much appreciated encouragement from friends, I decided to start this blog to document the trips that my husband and I take, and have taken, with our two daughters and to share our experiences with other families planning similar vacations. Travel, particularly family travel, is my passion. I believe that travel is one of the most educational experiences a child can have and I delight in traveling with my children and seeing the world through their eyes. I love to read about and plan for future vacations, whether it be holidays that we have already booked or locales that I'm just dreaming about visiting one day. Through this blog I hope to connect with like-minded travelers who want to discuss the pleasures and pitfalls of traveling en famille.
We have traveled with our two daughters, who are now 14 and 7, since each of them were infants. We started off with family-friendly destinations that were within short flights of our home in Canada and gradually started to travel further afield. We have traveled in the Canadian provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and British Columbia. In the United States we have been to Florida, Chicago, New York City, Arizona, Alaska (by cruise ship and land), Hawaii and San Diego. We have been to the Bahamas and also cruised twice in the Caribbean where ports of call included Key West, the Cayman Islands, Costa Maya, Puerto Rico and St. Thomas. In Europe, we have been to Copenhagen, London and Provence, France and also cruised in the Baltics spending time in Stockholm, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Tallinn, Gdansk and Oslo. I am currently planning a spring break trip to New York City and a summer holiday in the Mediterranean where we will spend a few days in Rome before embarking on an Eastern Mediterranean cruise that travels to Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, Istanbul, Ephesus and Naples.
This blog is very much a work in progress, however, I will start to share some thoughts about traveling with the family while I try to master the technical aspects of organizing the blog to provide useful information about destinations and tips for family travelers. Any comments and suggestions would be most welcome.
