We did eventually make it to New York City today – only 4 hours later than we had planned to arrive. We had expected to land at LaGuardia around 12:45 but arrived at 4:30 instead after a lengthy delay in Toronto.
We boarded our plane on time but then sat on the runway because of mechanical problems until they decided to de-plane and put us on a different plane. We had started at Gate 166 at Pearson and we were told to go directly to gate 132 to board another plane. By the time we arrived at that gate we were told that the flight was cancelled and we had to try and get on another flight. Fortunately we got four seats on the 2:15 flight and headed back to gate 169 to board that plane. Alas, more mechanical problems kept us grounded until after 3pm. The silver lining is that I watched an entire movie before we even left the ground in Toronto.
We had planned to spend the afternoon exploring Central Park, however, the delays meant that it was nearly dinner time when we were checking into our hotel so we were not able to do any sightseeing today at all. Today was an absolute beautiful day and, if the forecasts are to be believed, it may be the only nice day this week. The weather can't be helped though so we may have to spend more time at inside activities than we had planned.
We are staying at Hotel Beacon on the Upper West Side (Broadway & 75th) and we are quite pleased with our spacious accommodations. We have a two bedroom suite with two bathrooms and a kitchen/living area which provides lots of space for spreading out. We ventured out for a quick dinner at a pizza place that the hotel recommended – Patsy's Pizza (West 74th & Columbus) and had a great casual dinner at the pizzeria that has been in business since 1933 according to the sign.
Not much happened today but we are looking forward to a busy day tomorrow.
