I finally settled on a hotel in Rome and have booked our accommodations for this summer. I chose Albergo Santa Chiara (www.albergosantachiara.com) which is a family-run hotel in the historic area of Rome. The hotel was originally built as a tavern in 1839 and has expanded so that it now consists of close to 100 rooms spread across three separate buildings. The hotel is located behind the Pantheon and near Michelangelo’s obelisk in Piazza della Minerva. We should be able to walk from this central location to most of the city’s attractions.
We have booked a suite on the 5th (top) floor which consists of a separate bedroom and a living area with two pull-out sofas which means that Katie and Emma will not have to sleep together and the evenings will be much more peaceful for everyone. The suite also has a terrace where we can sit out in the evening and enjoy the view of Rome. The hotel has air-conditioning, WIFI, and a breakfast buffet – everything that we were looking for.
This hotel was recommended for families in a number of guidebooks and websites so hopefully we won’t be disappointed. Now that we have confirmed accommodations I can start planning our itinerary for Rome and each of the other ports that we will visit on our Mediterranean cruise. Excitement is building now – less than four months to go!!
