On April 5th, 2011 the Harry Potter Exhibition opened at Discovery Times Square in New York City on its final North American stop (mere days AFTER we had visited NYC for spring break). Discovery Times Square which bills itself as “more than a museum” is New York’s first large-scale exhibition center. It is a vast space which once housed the New York Times printing presses and is located on W. 44th between Broadway and 8th.
The Exhibition affords Harry Potter fans the opportunity to view hundreds of original props and costumes from the films in displays inspired by the Hogwarts film sets. The display will now include props from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I and Part II. We saw the Harry Potter Exhibition when it was at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto last summer and thought it was amazing. According to my daughter, Katie, however it would be even better now that it has been expanded to include props from the final two films.
If you are going to be in New York City with Harry Potter fans between now and the exhibition’s closing on September 5th then Discovery Times Square should definitely be on your itinerary.
