Passports with Purpose is an annual Travel Blogger's fundraiser that I am proud to be involved with for the second time this year. The fundraiser was established in 2008 by four travel bloggers (Debbie Dubrow, Michelle Duffy, Beth Whitman and Pam Mandel) as a means of giving back to the places that we, as travelers, visit and has expanded in each successive year.
Since forming in 2008, Passports with Purpose has raised money for Heifer International, built a school in Cambodia, 25 homes in a village in India, and two libraries in Zambia through a partnership with Room to Read. This year the beneficiary will be Water.org and the goal is to raise $100,000 to fund wells in two communities in rural Haiti and provide much-needed clean water.
Water is something that most of us take for granted but that's not the case for nearly half of the residents of Haiti who don't have a local source for safe water. We are so accustomed to just turning on a tap and having as much water as we want available to us whereas many Haitians have to walk great distances in order to obtain water - water that is often contaminated. Water.org is a non-profit organization that has been working with communities in Africa, Asia and Central America to provide access to sanitary water for over 20 years and will use the funds raised to help communities in Haiti establish long-term solutions to the problem of providing its citizens with safe water.
Participating travel bloggers have procured amazing prizes again this year including gift cards, electronics, hotel stays and organized tours. Donations are made in $10 increments and each increment entitles you to one entry for the prize of your choosing. All prizes are listed on the Passports with Purpose website. November 28th marks the kick-off for this year's fundraiser and donations for prizes will close on December 11, 11:59pm (EST). Donations will still be accepted after December 11th, however, you won't be entered into a prize drawing after that date. Winners will be notified on December 18th.
Please visit the Passports with Purpose donation page and consider donating to this worthy cause. Every dollar raised and every well built will ensure that more families in Haiti have access to a safe source of water.
