With Valentine’s Day just around the corner there’s a good chance you’re thinking about planning a romantic getaway with your significant other. But where should you go? These 10 recommendations for romantic weekend getaways in Ontario are properties that we have stayed at that I think are great choices for couples getaways – at any time of the year!

1. Langdon Hall Country House, Hotel & Spa, Cambridge
Langdon Hall Country House, Hotel & Spa is ideal if you’re looking for a romantic Valentine’s getaway in Ontario that’s within driving distance of Toronto. This luxury Relais & Châteaux property is located in the countryside outside of Cambridge about 90 minutes from Toronto and is known for its award-winning cuisine and elegant accommodations.
There are lovely spacious rooms and suites available in the Main House, adjacent Cloisters and restored Stables all featuring luxurious feather beds and down duvets (hypoallergenic bedding is also available on request). Many of the rooms also have seating areas and wood-burning fireplaces which you will appreciate on your romantic winter weekend getaway! My husband and I have stayed in one of the Cloisters rooms with fireplace for our anniversary and it was one of the most luxurious places we have ever stayed.

If your idea of a romantic winter getaway involves playing in the snow then The Westin Trillium House might be just what you’re looking for! The hotel is located in the pedestrians-only village of the Blue Mountain Ski Resort just two hours northwest of Toronto and has endless outdoor recreation options.
With 42 skiing and snowboarding trails for all levels, skating, snowshoeing, and more, it’s ideal for couples that prefer an active weekend. And if you get tired of the great outdoors, there’s always the pedestrian village, the indoor pool or Scandinave Spa to check out. I loved the resort when we stayed in the summer and would love to visit during the winter – there’s so much to do even for non-skiers!
The Westin Trillium House has spacious contemporary style rooms and suites with floor to ceiling windows that allow you to take in the spectacular views. All rooms have a seating area and gas fireplace to enjoy on a cozy winter evening.

If either you or your partner is a hopeless romantic who dreams of staying in a castle then the historic Fairmont Château Laurier is a great choice for your weekend getaway. The landmark hotel, first opened in 1912 as one of Canada’s luxury railway hotels, has recently undergone a multi-million dollar revitalization updating the lobby and the rooms. The hotel’s location in the heart of the nation’s capital next to Parliament overlooking the Ottawa River and the Rideau Canal is ideal for exploring all of the city’s most popular attractions.
The Château Laurier might look like an old French castle but the 426 guest rooms and luxury suites are all decorated in an up-to-date elegant style and include all of the modern amenities that you could want. 4. Pillar & Post Inn, Niagara-on-the-Lake
The Pillar & Post Inn, located in the charming town of Niagara-on-the-Lake, is ideal for a romantic winter getaway near Toronto. One of the loveliest country inns in Ontario, Pillar & Post is located in a historic property that was originally built as a cannery factory in the 1890s and the original post and beam construction is still visible in the inn’s lobby and restaurant.
While staying at the inn you can relax and enjoy the award-winning spa, participate in the scheduled activities, savour a gourmet meal in the Tuscan-style restaurant, explore the shops and boutiques in Niagara-on-the-Lake or enjoy one of the region’s wine tours.

5. Four Seasons Hotel Toronto
If a city break is more your style then the Four Seasons Toronto might be just what you need for your couples weekend getaway whether you live in the Toronto area and just want to escape for a night or plan to visit the city for the weekend.
The luxury hotel is located in the glamorous Yorkville district and is convenient for exploring the city’s top attractions – if you can tear yourself away from the hotel! We have stayed here on a couple of occasions and the hotel always exceeds expectations.
When you check into a Four Seasons, you know that you can expect to be pampered and that it will be worth every penny! The rooms at The Four Seasons Toronto are modern and spacious with incredibly comfortable beds, luxurious bathrooms and floor-to-ceiling windows providing incredible views of the city.
During your stay, plan to visit the hotel spa which offers numerous relaxing and rejuvenating services including couples’ massages and dine at Café Boulud, a French brasserie serving a seasonal menu that highlights bistro classics as well as contemporary dishes.

6. JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka Resort & Spa
Another great option for a romantic winter getaway in Ontario is JW Marriott The Rosseau Muskoka Resort & Spa, located on Lake Rosseau in the Muskoka region two and half hours north of Toronto. The luxury destination resort offers a slate of recreational activities that you can enjoy with your sweetie including ice skating, snowshoeing, an indoor-outdoor connected pool, and s’mores by a firepit.
After a full day of outdoor activities or relaxation at the luxury spa, you can enjoy a romantic dinner and wine at either Teca or Muskoka Chophouse and finish the day in front of the cozy fireplace in your room. We have only visited this resort in the summer but I could be persuaded to embrace winter here even if it was only for a couple of days!

Queen’s Landing is another Vintage Hotels property in Niagara-on-the-Lake which is perfect for couples wanting a romantic winter getaway near Toronto. The Georgian-style manor opened only in 1990 but its architecture reflects the time period when Loyalists began to arrive in Upper Canada from the American colonies.
The hotel has a lovely waterfront location overlooking the scenic Niagara River and Lake Ontario and I love that it is just a short walk from Niagara-on-the-Lake’s main street shops and boutiques. We have stayed at this property both in the summer and during the Christmas season and loved it in both seasons!
Queen’s Landing has 140 elegant guest rooms and suites that are both luxurious and comfortable with many contemporary amenities including plush hypoallergenic duvets. Many of the rooms also have fireplaces which are ideal for cozy winter nights.

8. Fairmont Royal York, Toronto
The historic Fairmont Royal York has defined luxury accommodation in Toronto since it was first opened by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1929. The castle-like hotel with its storied history has always been a favourite of mine and is ideally situated for a couples weekend getaway in the city.
Toronto’s biggest events and attractions are easily accessible from the hotel’s downtown location and since it’s connected to Union Station via underground you can arrive via train or subway with no need to bring a car into the city.
The Fairmont Royal York has more than 1,300 luxurious rooms and suites which have been recently revitalized in a timeless sophisticated style. While staying at the Fairmont Royal York, be sure to visit Reign, a Canadian brasserie with a traditional French touch, for a meal or for the traditional afternoon tea served in Clockwork.
The Royal York has a Royal Romance package that is available year-round but perfect for a Valentine’s getaway. The package includes accommodation, a bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate-covered strawberries, and a $50 CAD dining credit.

9. The Bruce Hotel, Stratford
My husband and I stayed at this luxury hotel in Stratford twice last summer and both fell in love with the property and think that it looks just as beautiful for a snowy season getaway!
The hotel is located on the main street coming into Stratford yet still feels quiet and private as the rear of the building faces onto a lovely park. The Bruce Hotel is just a short walk from both the Avon River and the shops and boutiques of downtown, the rooms are spacious and luxurious and many have lovely terraces or balconies. We loved The Restaurant at the Bruce which serves dishes using ingredients sourced from local farmers on a menu that is always evolving – the meals we ate here were delcious!

10. The Frontenac Club, Kingston
If you’re looking for a romantic escape in Eastern Ontario then you can’t go wrong with The Frontenac Club in Kingston. This boutique hotel is located in a historic limestone building that was once a branch of the Bank of Montreal and features 20 distinct luxury rooms with limestone walls, private patios, water views, deep soaker tubs, fireplaces, and curated artwork.
My husband and I stayed last year while spending a couple of days in Kingston and it is now one of my favourite hotels in the province. Our room was stylish and the bathroom was one of the best I have ever enjoyed, the service was exceptional and the food at the The Bank Gastrobar was delicious!
